Why a single photo isn't enough
A normal photograph flattens a three-dimensional world into two dimensions. The instant that happens, true scale is lost. A fish held closer to the lens looks larger; perspective distorts length; a tape measure laid alongside can be read at a misleading angle. You can estimate from a photo, but you cannot prove from one.
Solving this requires recovering the depth that a flat image throws away. That is exactly the problem the Sling Scope 360 was engineered around.
Stereo vision
The device uses two 190° fisheye lenses separated by a fixed baseline of roughly 3.6 inches. Because the two lenses see the same scene from slightly different positions, the overlap between their views contains parallax — the same effect your two eyes use to perceive depth.
From that parallax, the system can calculate true distances and dimensions from geometry rather than guesswork. The baseline is known and fixed, the lens characteristics are known, and so the math that turns two images into a real-world length is reliable and repeatable. This is the difference between estimating a fish and measuring it.
Iterative 3D scanning
A single stereo frame is good; a full reconstruction is better. Moving the Sling Scope 360 over the fish in multiple passes lets the system stitch those views into a multi-pass 3D reconstruction of the catch. More data means more confident endpoints — the nose and the tail are located in three dimensions, not eyeballed on a flat picture.
On-device intelligence handles the heavy lifting. Auto fish detection identifies the fish and its endpoints automatically, then presents the measurement for the angler to confirm or fine-tune. The workflow stays fast even though the underlying process is doing something genuinely sophisticated.
Steady hands on rough water
None of this matters if the footage is a blur. Offshore, the deck is never still. A 6-axis gyro stabilizes the 5.7K capture so the video stays smooth and the measurement stays reliable even as the boat pitches and rolls.
Stabilization is not just about pretty video. Clean, steady frames are what make accurate reconstruction possible in the first place, so the same system that produces share-worthy footage also produces trustworthy data.
Built for saltwater reality
Gear that cannot survive the environment is useless, no matter how clever. The Sling Scope 360 is rated IP68 waterproof to ten meters, runs up to roughly three and a half hours of continuous recording, and mounts directly to your Sling Reel with an integrated mount so it is always aimed where the action is.
Connectivity is built in too — Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.2 move footage and measurements off the device quickly, so there is no fumbling with cables on a wet deck when you want to review a catch.
From capture to submission
The companion app is where everything comes together. Review your 360° footage, confirm the measurement, edit, and submit — all in one place, along with a gallery of your catches and the leaderboards you are competing on.
That end-to-end flow is the whole point. A catch becomes a measurement, the measurement becomes a verified record package complete with footage and metadata, and the package becomes something you can submit and share with confidence.
